Polyphthalamide

Zytel® High-Temperature Nylon (HTN) polyphthalamide solutions offer especially high performance for demanding applications in transportation, electronics/electrical and other industries. These resins are the choice for reducing weight, improving strength, enhancing durability, increasing thermal performance and simplifying processing.

What is Zytel® HTN?

Zytel® HTN is a range of materials based on polyphthalamide semi-aromatic nylons. Even more than standard polyamide resins, the HTN range offers especially high strength and stiffness over a wide range of temperatures, chemicals and moisture exposure. Zytel® HTN has excellent dimensional stability and flow, enabling efficient processing of even complex parts. This range of materials is widely used to replace metal parts that must withstand high temperature tolerances (such as engine cooling, handheld devices and non-halogenated connectors) while reducing cost and weight.

Why Zytel® HTN?

The chemical structure of Zytel® HTN solutions enables designers to have confidence when critical requirements are severe. This range of specialty materials delivers excellent retention of properties and dimensional stability even in very humid conditions and at extended high temperatures. They offer chemical resistance to glycols and to motor transmission and transformer oil, as well as other chemicals. Structural grades of Zytel® HTN help provide larger display areas when used in backbones for cell phones and other handheld devices.

PROPERTIES

Polyphthalamide Properties:

  • Low effect of moisture
    - Excellent retention of properties
    - Good dimensional stability
  • Good high temperature properties
  • High melting point range, up to 310°C (590°F)
    - High glass transition temperatures, dry, 80ºC (176°F) to 141°C (286°F)
    - Low coefficient of thermal expansion, reinforced grades
  • Chemical resistance to glycols, motor transmission and transformer oil
